The KidWind JR Challenge is an exciting, hands-on event designed specifically for middle school students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Scheduled for December 5, 2025, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, this challenge offers a unique opportunity for students to explore renewable energy through wind power.
During the event, students will team up to design and build wind turbine blades for pre-assembled towers. SMUD provides all necessary materials and even sets up a wind tunnel on-site to test each team’s turbine designs. There is no preparation required beforehand—teachers and students simply show up ready to learn and have fun.
The KidWind JR Challenge is an excellent way for students and their coaches to build confidence, ignite interest in clean energy, and gain valuable, hands-on STEM experience. Stay tuned for more details, and we look forward to welcoming you to another inspiring and educational event!
