Are you interested in learning about hands-on, interactive methods to engage students in learning about wind and solar energy? Do you want to know more about renewable energy in South Dakota? Would you like to prepare a team of students to compete in the 2nd annual South Dakota Wind Energy Competition? This educator’s workshop is for you!
The workshop is geared for 4th – 12th grade teachers who want to learn more about wind and solar energy. We will learn about the KidWind wind turbine and curriculum and build and test a wind turbine in a classroom wind tunnel! During the day-long workshop, we will experience a few of the KidWind wind energy and solar energy lessons, understand some of the basic science and technology behind modern wind power, review the wind projects underway in South Dakota, and test various blade designs in the classroom wind tunnel. We will also learn about the 2nd annual South Dakota Wind Energy Competition, and the 2025 World KidWind Challenge. There is also an opportunity for earning 1 Credit Hour graduate credit through the University of Sioux Falls.
Contact Tasha. Pravecek@k12.sd.us if you would like more information about the workshop or graduate credit requirements.
