SUMMARY:WE LEAD NOLA KidWind Challenge
DESCRIPTION:During Louisiana Wind Energy Week\, we invite you to attend the KidWind Challenge\, a collaborative showcase celebrating our university’s partnership with KidWind and high schools across Orleans Parish under the WE LEAD NOLA program. This event highlights student innovation and renewable energy education in our community. \nThe challenge is a hands-on design competition in which high school teams present their small-scale wind turbine structure designs. Students\, led by their teachers\, will build and test their prototypes in real-time throughout the morning with oversight by KidWind director\, Michael Arquin\, and his team. \nTeams will also have the opportunity to present to the judges to explain their designs and reasoning for developing the wind tunnel and floating environments. Testing will commence at 1 and announcements and awards will be presented between 1:30 and 2 \nThe winning team will earn the chance to compete at KidWind Worlds\, where they will represent our region against teams from over 60 cities nationwide.

SUMMARY:Wisconsin KidWind Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Wisconsin KidWind Challenge is a hands-on renewable energy competition that engages students from across Wisconsin in STEM. Student teams bring small-scale wind turbines or solar devices that they’ve designed to the Challenge where they will be tested for power output. Teams also meet with a panel of expert judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge\, and tackle instant challenge activities. The public is welcome to come spectate\, cheer on the teams\, and engage in hands-on science activities at the Science Expo. \nWhat happens at the Wisconsin KidWind Challenge?\nAt the Challenge\, student teams will: \n\nTest their turbine or solar device’s energy output\nPresent in front of a panel of expert judges\nComplete instant challenges that test teamwork and hands-on thinking\nHear from college students studying renewable energy and competing in the Collegiate Wind Competition\nExplore careers in clean energy\n\nFriends\, family\, and spectators are welcome and encouraged to come support competing teams. \nWho can participate in the Challenge?\nAny group of students in grades 4 to 12 is eligible to enter as a team. This includes students from public and private schools\, home schoolers\, after school clubs\, Scout troops\, etc. As long as you have a coach and a team\, you can attend! Teams of 2-6 students seem to work best. \nEach team must have a coach. The coach will be responsible for registering the team for the competition and managing the team’s progress. Neither KidWind nor the Wisconsin Energy Institute will provide or be responsible for supervision of students at a Challenge event. \nThe Challenge is free to compete in and attend. \nTop performers will be invited to the 2025 World KidWind Challenge. \n  \nReady to get started?\nRegistration for the 2025 WI KidWind Challenge will open in November on the event website. \nClick here for a pdf preview of the Registration Form. \nFor detailed information on preparing for the Challenge\, all teams should read the 2023-24 Wind Challenge Rulebook. The 2024-25 Rulebook will be shared when available. \n  \nQuestions or comments? Want to know more? \nVisit https://energy.wisc.edu/events/2025-wisconsin-kidwind-challenge-saturday-march-1 and contact us at outreach@energy.wisc.edu!

SUMMARY:New Jersey KidWind Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey KidWind Challenge is a hands-on renewable energy competition that engages students from across New Jersey in STEM. Student teams bring small-scale wind turbines or solar devices that they’ve designed to the Challenge where they will be tested for power output. Teams also meet with a panel of expert judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge\, and tackle instant challenge activities. \nWhat happens at the New Jersey KidWind Challenge?\nAt the Challenge\, student teams will: \n\nTest their turbine’s energy output\nPresent in front of a panel of expert judges\nComplete instant challenges that test teamwork and hands-on thinking\n\nFriends\, family\, and spectators are welcome and encouraged to come support competing teams. \nThe Challenge is free to compete in and attend. \nTop performers will be invited to the 2025 World KidWind Challenge. \n  \nFor detailed information on preparing for the Challenge\, all teams should read the 2024-25 Wind Challenge Guidebook.

SUMMARY:North Carolina Renewable Energy Challenge
DESCRIPTION:With funding from the North Carolina Renewable Ocean Energy Program and in partnership with KidWind and Jennette’s Pier\, the Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) hosts the day-long North Carolina Renewable Energy Challenge annually on the ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese. This year’s event will include wind and underwater turbine competitions with upper elementary & middle (grades 4-8)and high school (grades 9-12) divisions for each. The competition aims to increase engineering solutions for the alternative energies available in North Carolina. \nFunding is available for basic competition materials and travel to CSI. If teams wish to have funding for either\, please contact Parker Murphy and John McCord.
