NJ EDA

KidWind in partnership with New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), local industry and other organizations has launched a comprehensive outreach program focused on helping students understand and explore offshore wind energy and the career opportunities that it will provide in the coming decades.

New Jersey has established an ambitious goal of generating 11 GW of electricity from offshore wind energy by 2040 as part of the State’s Energy Master Plan to transition to 100 percent clean energy by 2035. This means 30 percent of offshore wind energy produced on the East Coast will be from New Jersey.

Current Initiatves

Over the last 9 months we have been working on the following initiatives:

Advisory Panel Coordination:
We have constructed an advisory panel of 23 individuals from academia, industry and local unions to help guide our outreach and programming.

Materials Development:
Our team has been writing and testing 3 activity guides for elementary, middle and high school students. These will be released in January 2024.

Teacher Training:
This summer we held week-long training focused on offshore wind for 30 NJ educators. To learn more about the content that was covered see the agenda and resources that were shared with the teachers.

In partnership with Clean Energy/Bright Futures we also launched a cohort of 10 NJ Offshore Wind Energy Leaders (OWELS). These NJ educators are working to learn about offshore wind energy and create programs for their students that center student learning around local educational needs and interests.

KidWind Challenges:
We are currently planning two NJ KidWind Challenges for the spring of 2024. Locations and date will be released in November.
