2026 Kern County KidWind Challenge

The Kern County KidWind Challenge is a fun, hands-on design competition that introduces high school students to renewable energy technologies at a manageable scale. Hosted by the Kern CCD’s California Renewable Energy Laboratory and Kern County Superintendent of Schools STEAM Yard, students work in teams of four to build and test small-scale wind turbines, while engaging in surprise Instant Challenges to assess their on-site problem solving skills. 

This challenge is open to 9th-12th grade students. Registration opens October 13th, 2026.
